This artwork is inspired by my love for dancehall and my trip to Jamaica. We traveled to Kingston and Portland. We took dancehall classes from local crews and explored Jamaica’s natural beauty. The energy and creativity are magically contagious. The language, Jamaican patois, is colorful and is everywhere between the signage and conversation. Dancehall brought me to Jamaica, has connected me to some amazing people, and in general has elevated my life.

As we go through each day’s journey, twilight guides us through the shift from day to night and night to day. At morning twilight, the sun’s rays start to peak on our side of the earth. It’s time to meditate and get ready for the day. A time to stretch and breath; a moment of calm. After our full day of adventure, twilight is there to greet us again, giving us time to reflect, take a deep breath, and relax. The sun has set. The moon has yet to rise. It’s quiet, and I am at peace. The life cycle continues, living by the sun and the moon.

I am interested in power – whether it is the power of relationships or the literal interpretation of power that makes things run. This piece is my take on the water wheel that has played such a major role in our history, from the windmills that provided water to the rural communities, to the paddleboats navigating through the rivers. I have created this work for the viewer to spin, and have fun with the interaction it provides.

I grew up swimming in my parents' pool, swimming in the Pedernales River, going to Port Aransas, Texas, and going to college in St. Petersburg, Florida. This piece plays with my sense of being connected to water, and seeing the energy of water in a new light.

Bluebonnets are iconic to the central Texas Hill Country. Every spring, thousands of people flock to the fields of bluebonnets to take photographs of their families and friends, and artists bring the blue and violet fields to life in paintings. This is my version of the Texas bluebonnets.
My family used to have a river house on the Pedernales River, and every year, we would revel in the beautiful fields of bluebonnets. This piece invites the viewer to be a part of the field of bluebonnets by being reflected in the mirror profiles. This is my way to interact with our beautiful state flower.

This piece is influenced by my time in Florida. I lived in a little beach community called Passagrille in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Every morning, I would go for a run on the beach, watching the golden sun shine on the water and the breeze blow through the sea grasses. This is my interpretation of the sea grasses, combined with my “life is good” attitude.
